How do you build indomitable teams?

While not everyone will experience building a team through a wilderness expedition, the truths are the same in the office. Click through the journey below to see the key steps in helping your own team become indomitable through gaining grit and understanding their duty to each other.

Selection

Creating the right culture begins with who you select to be on the team. It is essential that you select for more than skill, that you are selecting for the team’s expectation of performance.

Preparation

As the adage says, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” When you prepare well, the team is ready to take on challenges and share ownership for the outcome.

First Encounter

Using the first experience a teammate has with the team to reinforce expectations and set the stage of authenticity will serve everyone well when times get tough.

Movement

The team will follow a leader when they know where they are going and clearly understand expectations. They will only follow the leader again, however, if they feel valued along the way.

Base Camp

No team can run hard forever. Balancing when you can speed the team up by slowing down and creating a space for appreciation and rest is essential to sustained high performance

Fireside Chat

We don’t often pause to reflect on what led to the results. Discussing both the tactics and the relationships that led to success, or something short of it, will accelerate the effectiveness of a team.

Who's Who?

The best teams are inclusive and selfless in their desire to fulfill their duty – the expectations and obligations they have to the team. Leaders create the environment that enables this.

Obstacles

Obstacles overcome not only lead to learning and growth, but to bonding of teams. When teams turn toward each other in tension, they unlock an unmatched determination.

Rhythm

The team will move in flow with seamless communication and act as one when the rhythm is built upon a common purpose to which everyone commits.

Tribal Connections

When people feel truly safe, they will assume full ownership for themselves and develop strong bonds that forge a dedicated commitment to others.

The Crux

In the face of the most brutal adversity, we still have a choice in how we respond. What enables us to respond with grit and optimism is a deep sense of purpose.

The End is Another Beginning

A ”why” that is not focused on others is often not meaningful enough to guarantee our persistence in difficult times. Serving others well inspires others to do the same.
